  • Thank you. I'm so tired of fans from my generation complaining about defense. The players today are SOOOO much more skilled than from my childhood/early adulthood in the 80's and 90's. Old heads who disagree are just bitter and intentionally blinding themselves. In the 90's it was a big deal that 6'6" PF Anthony Mason could dribble the ball up court. John Stockton was considered a top PG despite barely being able to use his left hand. The average player today is more skilled than most superstars from the 90's. P.S., to my fellow old heads, remember when we used to get annoyed by fans from the 60's and 70's who talked shit about defensive effort and never shut up about how soft the game was? Congrats on becoming them.

  • Back in the 1990's, scoring was very low. Players were being criticized for not being able to shoot. The reason? Defense was prioritized. Since more defense meant less scoring and scoring was a big fan pleaser, the defensive rules changed . . .drastically. Hand checking, which limited Michael Jordan a great deal, was outlawed (and all subsequent guards benefited). And when defense wasn't being limited, offence was being unleashed. When Allen Iverson entered the league, he received a letter from the referees telling him that his crossover move was going to be whistled as a violation. Iverson said "I dare you" and became a magical ball handler. When I played Div 2 college ball in the 1960's having your hand on the side of a ball was an automatic whistle (being a "carry"). Players today are allowed to put their hand on the bottom of the ball and turn it over. All of these things allow for better ball handling.

  • You say it like other leagues don’t play defence the only reason you can non stop drive in the nba is because you literally not allowed to defend the key forcing an outside shot! you have to run in with the guy to avoid the violation. I would say offence is almost at the point they should remove the handicap and let people defend again, Every time I watch the nba I can’t believe the scores it’s like the old globetrotter vibes no one on either team cares they just want it to be a good show

  • Man ray Allen, Reggie Miller, Allen Houston, ect would be smoking these dudes, a dude like Steve Kerr would be in all-time 3 point shots made type shit, today's league has completely destroyed the game of basketball. Man it's put the ball in the hoop and stop the other guy from doing it. Vice versa. When you take the defense away it just kills the competitiveness. Imagine if they done the same in the NFL and made up some bs rule like only single tackles are allowed or some shit, it would destroy the whole sport. And it's exactly what has happened to the NBA

    Justin YorkJustin YorkPrieš 9 dienų
  • Lmao naw Bru, defense has basically been made illegal. It's easy for a team to put up 130 if the D can't touch you. This era is the weakest and softest of all-time. And it's sad really because it has the potential to be the greatest. Ain't rocket science but if you put harden in the 90s he ain't gonna average as much. Every player wants to be the man and the game itself has gone drastically down hill since 2013. Being hand checking back, turn the 3 sec d paint violation to 5 and the offense as well. It's the perfect time to because of this era's style of play. Bring the dominant big man back and it will bring the physicality back, therefore bring back the competitiveness back and the entertainment would be 10 times better. College basketball is so much more exciting because of the competitiveness and urgency. It so sad man how soft this era is For real.

  • In contrary, players that could do it all in today’s league like jokic would SEVERELY suffer in past eras because he never would be given the opportunity to show off that skill set

    Funny_Scream .mp3Funny_Scream .mp3Prieš 9 dienų
  • It’s also more difficult for young stars to show off their talents because they aren’t given as many opportunities as they would’ve in previous eras. So there’s definitely players that could’ve been all stars that just were never seen in that light or just weren’t viewed as having the potential because they weren’t given the opportunity

    Funny_Scream .mp3Funny_Scream .mp3Prieš 9 dienų
  • It’s also important to note that the faster paced evolution of today’s nba is PROVEN to cause more injuries among young players that need adjusting to the new system and hurts basketball because it’s better to see your favorite player shine sometimes then not be able to see them at all for the rest of the season because both teams were moving fast a reckless

    Funny_Scream .mp3Funny_Scream .mp3Prieš 9 dienų
  • The traditional idea of positions has changed drastically instead of working as a team cohesively to win games it’s to see how can put up better stats for a spreadsheet. Traditionally the point guard isn’t supposed to make that many points but open up opportunities for others, lead the floor, and take charge only when necessary to keep the game alive then get the rest of the team going now. But honestly you can’t blame players that’s literally just the kind of environment the nba is.

  • It's not the NBA now. It's the NDA. No Defense Allowed. It's now like Harlem Globetrotters vs Washington Generals every night. 1.Weak ass defensive Rules have negated negated physical defense and rebounding and increased 3 point shooting protection. 2. These new rules allow referees to further impact the outcomes of games and now Even playoffs and NBA finals. 3. This allows the NBA through the referees to fix games even more than ever. It allows the NBA to create and control to thier liking there own money making revenue generating superstars and marketable teams. This past finals with Bucks winning is proof. The refs let Jrue Holiday horse collar Chris Paul. The refs Allowed PJ Tucker to hack Devin Booker. That's all great but on the flip side DeAndre Ayton was not allowed by the refs after game 2 to play any defense or even breathe on Gianis. Fact. Refs rigged Finals.

Since everybody are scoring more, top scorers are still amazing players in their own right, and their numbers should be respected. It might be better if they start to show stats along the line of OBS+ for PPG, adjusting the player’s performance against league’s average, to show how players today can be as dominant to everyone else as player’s back then.

  • You're falling into a trap. You say that big men today are more skilled because they can shoot jump shots. I would argue that big men of old were far more talented and skilled. Go look at the post moves I'm an Olajuwan or a Robinson or Kevin McHale and tell me today's big men are more talented and skilled. Today's big men can jump shoot. That's all they can do. The amount of damage that a skilled post player could do in today's NBA would be ridiculous. Since no one can defend in the post, a big man with good offensive footwork and some amount of touch around the basket would score on every trip. As for ISO players breaking down their man, that is only the case because of the changing definition of traveling and carrying. Almost every modern ball handler commits a carry multiple times on every possession. It is almost unwatchable these days. Add to that the whole BS about gathering the mall. James harden travels every time he shoots. So does almost everyone else. It isn't that players today are more talented or more skilled it simply they're allowed to use techniques that are clearly illegal, but the refs don't call it.

    Brushy LakeBrushy LakePrieš 15 dienų
  • The NBA is such a joke now a days. Defense will literally never catch up because once a strategy works the commissioner will just ban it. Happened with Rodman, happened with Wilt and happened to 90s-early 00s defense. You can't even flaunt without possibly getting a technical
